Why Bother?

• How does a cold make you feel?
• Do existing treatments work?
• How do you feel when somebody near you at work has a cold?
• As more people cure their colds there will be fewer opportunities for the infection to be spread.
• For some people a cold is not a trivial illness:
• I know one apparently otherwise healthy young adult who spent two weeks in hospital in intensive care as a result of a cold.
• My mother had COPD and every minor infection resulted in being taken to hospital and put on oxygen.
• In informal trials I demonstrated how to cure a cold to several groups of 8 to 12 people. In each group there was at least one person with a similar tale to tell, including one person who knew somebody who died as a result of a cold.
• There was also one example of somebody who had a severe reaction to an ‘over the counter’ cold remedy, despite making extensive checks to ensure that it was safe.
• A former nurse summed it up by saying that for anybody with an existing respiratory condition, a cold could be a serious infection.
